A Blur -a grotesque-I sat on the attic floor and ran the dark green ribbon over my lips. The silk made soft swooshing sounds as I pulled it back and forth, over and over. My brother, Jacob, sat on top of our grandmother’s old sewing table, which was covered in dust and old magazines. The huge, circular window set in the outside wall cast a circle of light onto my back. I sat cross-legged and slumped over, so that my hair fell in front of my face, shining fire-red where the winter light filtered through it.
